When in Vietnam, Vang Dalat Red Wine

It’s suprising how good a red wine can be even in the hot tropical evenings of downtown Saigon. After walking what it seemed like a whole lap of District 1 of Ho Chi Min City and finally finding the restaurant well known it seems to travellers and locals alike, we were able to sit at a table and reflect on our day. Markets and motorbike-taxi rides are  just part of the life of Saigon and to finish the day with great seafood, a few Tiger beers was great.

So, for after dinner, why try the locally made wine, Vang Dalat…

As good as any French vin de pays, Dalat is flavoursome and bold enough to make the wine orderable whenever found on a winelist anywhere in the Viet nation.

The winning wine lists were spread around the country with NSW victories including:

Best International Hotel Restaurant List – Glass Brasserie

Best Food & Wine Matching – Bilson’s

Victoria’s winners were Bistro Vue for Best Cafe/Brasserie List, RACV Members Dining Room – Best Club List, Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld – Best Country Restaurant List and La Petanque in Main Ridge – Best Regional List

South Australian restaurant Fino from Willunga was awarded Best Small List

Western Australia claimed two categories, Best Wine Bar List for Must Winebar and Best Pub Restaurant List for Settlers Tavern in the Margaret River

State winners were Rockpool Bar & Grill NSW, The Ginger Room ACT, Cru Bar & Cellar QLD, Vue De Monde VIC, Appellation SA, Must Winebar WA and Terrace Restaurant TAS.

2008 national winner, Taxi Dining joined Aria, Forty One, Asiana, Circa, the Prince, Syracuse, Walters Wine Bar in the Hall of Fame together with three time winners Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, Healesville Hotel and Friends.

じゃ、明日は「海の日」ですが。天気用法は８０パ雨。ざーざーフルかなぁ。

私は明日「シネマの日」と呼びます。どうしようかな？雨降れば、地下鉄で中州たいようシネマまでいって、映画をみて、後で近いリバーレインでランチたべながら、白ワイン飲むつもりです。後は、どうかな？リバーレインの一階のFacesで夕方ゆっくりでそとの雨を見ながら、夏のビール飲むほうがいいんじゃない？

The Lane, South Australia – Adelaide Hills

Recently back from Australia where I had the chance to visit a lovely little winery in the Adelaide Hills. The Lane is the realisation of a lifelong dream of winemaker John Edwards. All grapes are sourced from the winery’s own vineyards. Their slogan being “Grown in our backyard – Every berry.”

Lunch in the casual, yet stylish bistro was superb followed by wine tasting and tour of the modern winery with John’s wife Helen and Ben Tolstoshev. A great experience I recommend to do if you visit The Lane.

I just had to take some of The Lane’s wine back to Japan with me.

A couple of winery’s flagships:

Viognier 2007  (my favourite of the whites I tasted)

19th Meeting Cabernet Sauvignon 2003  (a lovely drop of Cab Sav with an old world feel)

Still cellared waiting for the right night to have a little Adelaide Hills class.

Nice winery!

white wine fever

For some reason a few wines have been building up in my refrigerator.  It seems with the summer heat every time I walk past a bottle shop I walk in and out with a bottle of white. Now I have a dilema… what to drink first?

最近冷蔵庫にワインが集まられるよ。今夏暑いから、ワインの店を通る時に店に入って、ワインを持ち帰りそう。さ、今ちょっと困ってる。最初どっち開けて飲みましょうか？

Sileni Estate Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2007

天気が暖かくなった。白ワイン飲みました。

Sileniのソーヴィニヨン・ブランは大胆なワイン。ぶどうの風味の強いわいんです。シトルス。クラシックなNZのマールボロのソーヴィニヨン・ブラン。

とても気持ち天気の夜で、友達と一緒にバルコニーBBQして、とても美味しい焼いたローズマリーかけた鮭、飲みました。もちろんこのワインは鮭に合うよ。

毎日のワインの探し

毎日アルコールが飲まないけど、家にいつもワインあり、夜でレラックスのため、ワイン飲みます。もちろん良いワインが毎回飲みたいけど、お金がかかるから、最近毎日飲めるのワインが探している。助けって！何か良いワインがお勧めますか？

今日は、オーストラリアのCasellaWinesのYellowtail　Chardonnayを飲んでます。今日は梅雨のような日ですから、冷たくて、美味しい白ワインがいいと思います。Yellowtailは、まあ、かなり大丈夫です。

I don’t drink alcohol everyday but usually I have some wine around the house. It’s nice to come home and relax with a glass of wine. Of course I’d like to drink great wine every day but the truth is that would be too expensive. So, recently I’ve begun searching for a good wine that I can drink often that isn’t too expensive. Do you know any decent reasonably priced wines?

Today, I’ve gone for a cheap Australian. Casella Wines’ Yellowtail Chardonnay (Not much selection at the local Sunny supermarket). Today is very much like a rainy season day and perfect for a cool white wine. The Yellowtail, which can be found in any supermarket, does the job. Not great, but it’s alright.

Logan Wines Weemala Pinot Noir 2007

初めのワインレビューはやぱりオーストラリアのワインです。私は、ワインの興味が始めた時はオーストラリアの赤ワインだから。

The Weemala Pinot Noir is a very nice medium bodied wine with hints of berries on a lovely smooth finish.　Possibly a little young, but very drinkable now.

Weemalaピノ・ノワールはメディアムボディーでとても飲みやすいの赤ワインです。若いワインですけれども、今も飲んだらすごくフレッシュな味だと思います。もう少し古いビンテージ飲んでみたいです。

ラベルに小さい鳥は「Blue Wren]というの鳥です。

Well, what a mad weekend! Hanami in the park. A kick of the football and some volleyball too. Had a nice Pinot Noir, but I forget the name… must improve my research.

花見っていうけど、あんまり桜を見てなかった。美味しいオーストラリアのピノ・ノワールを飲んだけど、名前はノートに書いてなかったから、今度同じワイン店に行って、ちゃんと調べる予定です。
